Ricewich, Sum, Dim Sum... Rice takes over lunch with new delicious concepts

After innovating with the sandwiches, filling it with all kinds of innovative recipes, some people thought it was time to question that good old bread and to blow some west wind on it to turn it into rice.

Then... what happens when a rice ball mates with a sandwich? Habits get changed, mobile food gets transformed, Ricewich is born...

When the West inspires East :

Currently sold in Nethelands in Ah To Go and in France in Monop shops, Ricewich is the new comer in the trend of take away food innovations. By replacing tradional bred by a slightly toasted sticky rice, ricewich offers a new interpretation of the sandwich through the eyes of oriental culture. A clever move from Sushi Ran, a big sushi producer based in Luxembourg and Belgium who managed to adapt the japanese sushi to provide an answer to consumers' need for mobile food that offers quality, healthy ingredients while being innovative and above all easy to eat in a nomadic environnement.

Filled with 4 different types of fillings such as shrimp tempura, chicken terriaki etc, it offers a healthy (about 220 kcal/100gr) and exotic alternative  to traditional lunch take away food while providing an innovative packaging.

Rice takes over

After the sushi, it seems that rice is starting to replace bread in people's lunch boxes as we also noticed with SUM, a  new restaurant which is opening in Paris next september. Sum is a restaurant which is offering  Dim Sums (steamed bites in a rice bun), Baos (chinese steamed buns) and rice all cooked with innovating recipes (and no fat !), sold in a design packaging and a cool take away shop environment. For that, it has won an award for innovative food concept at the Snack and Sandwich Show this winter in Paris. Sum aims to develop dim sum food culture and adapt it to the occidental world just like sushis has become for us part of our almost daily food habits. A bold move which has, as far I read from it, been successfully handled with the creating recipes such as beef coriander dim sum, shrimp & bamboo or yellow curried chicken. Each dim sum assortment offers colorful bites which make your senses travels and your imagination think you have become a manga queen for the time of your lunch break !

Can't wait to taste it for real in september !!!

What happens when.... a restaurant makes it happen, a tribute to a great concept

When I was living in New York a few months ago, I was fascinated by the diversity of restaurants and wondered how they managed to keep the customers loyalty in a market where it is so easy to go next door to seek diversity. Then, I found the restaurant who discovered the trick to constantly reinvent themselves and create an new experience for each client, loyal as he or she may be.

What Happens When is a temporary restaurant which recreates it self from setting, decoration, to menu, every 30 days, in order to surprise the client each time, to "make people look around, to invite wonder and reflection. Each month, a new "Movement" appeared, the inspiration was explained on the restaurant website, created the event and invited people to wonder.

When I was living in New York, this place was my favourite place to go. Unfortunatly, as I am writing to you I just discovered that What Happens When closed its doors last week... I just wanted to show my support and to say thank you to all the team of people who developed a concept which, to me, is probably one of the most innovative and inspiring restaurant concept.

First steps of a foodie in the blogworld

Dear food curious,

Before starting this blog, I thought I should first introduce myself, my name is Wendy, I am 24, I studied business in France and I am what they call a foodista... I am fascinated and passionate about food, culinary habits, innovative restaurants & concepts, and about foodbusiness entrepreneurship.

During my studies, I had the chance to travel and live abroad, every-time I discovered a new city, the best way for me to really get to know a culture, to own the city was to observe people's relationship to food. I started developing a whole cabinet full of food curiosities, I hid all those memories somewhere in my head, but I always had the intuition I had to share it. I read several blogs about food, I was inspired by the blog of Edouard Borie or websites such as Eat Me Daily and then I thought, why not me?... I decided to share everything online as well and create my own Food Cabinet of Curiosities !

Because after all, food is all about sharing, whether it is around a table or through a keyboard. With this blog, I will try to share with other foodcurious what caught my eye but above all, I invite you all to share with us what caught your eye in the food world.

See you all very soon for a new discovery in the Food Cabinet Of Curiosities...
